There was a very, very thankful and extremely humbled guy. He was a guy who “stumbled” into a life of ministry – a life of sharing Jesus with precious people from every corner of society and culture; most every nation around the globe, either face to face or film to face, or book to face or computer to face… his life having been entirely spun around and swept away on a journey which he could never have even imagined, let alone plotted and planned for himself.
As a teenager all this guy ever envisioned for himself was to work as an actor by profession, raise a family, enjoy life as most everyone desires to enjoy life. As an adult those simple dreams rose and fell a dozen times, and came together and crumbled and came together a dozen more… as men’s dreams often do.
And then there came Jesus, who saved that guy from, well, himself. There came Jesus who said, “Come portray me. Come write about me, come speak about me…” There came Jesus who said, “I have hopes and plans for you far above and beyond your own.”
I will never forget my very first “stepping out” in ministry, way back in October of 1993. I will never forget bending my face to the carpet in a Cape Town hotel room moments before walking out the door and standing before my first ever gathering of precious, precious souls. I will never forget saying, “Lord, I don’t know what to do,” and in the ways he deals with me, sensing his clear response, “Refresh the saints. Refresh the saints… with Me.” (more…)
