A Day to Do Nothing

“Be still, and know that I am God…”  Psalm 46:10.

Yesterday was a remarkably unusual day for me – especially in these days when I am juggling so very much and my time is so filled, with John, the South Africa ministry, keeping up my writing commitments, traveling/speaking, keeping Mom secure and fulfilled in the wake of Dad’s passing - and let’s not forget, trying to make a living!  Yikes!

But entirely unplanned, I did what I’ve only done  a handful of times in my life – absolutely nothing.  I woke and made myself a cup of coffee.  Then back to bed with my Bible and reading through Psalms.  My coffee cup empty, I put the Word down and began speaking praises and worship.  In no time at all my hands were raised and my voice along with it, singing and worshipping on and on…

That went on the entire day.  I didn’t even stop to eat.  I didn’t get up and shower.  I didn’t answer the phone or check my emails or watch the news… I didn’t ”anything,” but worship and pray.  Glory to the name of Jesus!

I can tell you, there is nothing like worshipping God.  I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets so totally taken up in it.  And it is astounding how the world around me can be so cloudy and confusing, and then in worship it’s like everything becomes clear, simple, obvious.   (more…)
